Andre Kostelanetz Discography in Preparation by James North — September 2008
North, James H. Easy Listening: The Andre Kostelanetz Discography. Lanham, Maryland: Scarecrow Press, in preparation.

James H. North is preparing a discography of Andre Kostelanetz, for expected publication in 2010. The discography will cover all of Kostelanetz’s commercial recordings, listing as many releases as can be discovered, including promotional issues for Columbia Records, CBS, Sony, and other companies. Because Maestro Kostelanetz designed each album as an artistic whole, the main discography will blend the conventional discographic order—chronologically by recording sessions—with comprehensive listings of each album. Reissues on all forms of records (but not tapes) will be included therein. An additional section of the book will address recordings of his radio programs in the 1930s and 1940s; another will follow his career in Hollywood films, as conductor, music director, and actor. For ease of reference, another chapter will be devoted to all the albums issued on Compact Discs, with the complete contents of each. The discography will also discuss Kostelanetz’s arrangers, other musicians with whom he worked, and his apppearances on television.

James H. North is a free-lance journalist and music critic who has been a regular contributor to Fanfare Magazine for two decades and to the English publication Classic Record Collector. He has written program notes for many classical LPs and CDs on several labels, including discographies of Leonard Bernstein’s recordings and of Gustav Mahler’s works for historical-CD compilations by the New York Philharmonic. Mr. North is the author of two books from Scarecrow Press: New York Philharmonic: The Authorized Recordings, 1917-2004, A Discography, and Boston Symphony Orchestra: An Augmented Discography.
